Martin del Amo with Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey present their work-in-progress series of dance-music experimentations to be conducted ‘on the floor’. As part of their free ROOM TO MOVE showing, they will present a selection of vignettes generated from those experimentations. Parade was originally designed for presentation in two parallel lifts, evoking the fleeting encounters, intriguing coincidences and repetitious potentials of continual punctuating presentations. Andrew Morrish 'Oh Well Part 21' premieres immediately afterwards. Book for both!

It was in the old Baroona Hall in Caxton Street, currently the site of the popular live band venue, 'Lefty's Old Time Music Hall'. The band was formed by Andy Jenner who was also founder-member of Brisbane's Vintage Jazz Band. It was originally set up as an acoustic New Orleans style band and built a loyal following in these early years and appeared at many venues. But it was probably the legendary Saturday afternoon sessions in the beer garden at the Caxton Hotel, beginning in 1981, that sealed their reputation as an entertaining, hot, driving band. It was the beginning of an 11year engagement. The band's success at the Caxton Hotel led to regular engagements in the 1980s at Mileham Hayes' Cellar Club and appearances at various Australian Jazz Conventions and festivals. Two members of the current Caxton Street Jazz Band, Bernice Haydock and Tom Nicolson were playing with the band in these early years, Bernice having been there at the beginning. The band saw many changes of personnel through the 80s and 90s but from 2001 to the present day there have been few changes. Sadly, Bob Mair who was the original washboard player & drummer with the band lost his battle with cancer in February this year. Along with his partner Bernice he was the joint leader and the heart and soul of the band. The band now welcomes Dave McCallum to the drum chair and we intend to carry on Bob's good work and continue to play tight and hot! We'd like to acknowledge all the many fine musicians, far too numerous to mention here, who have been associated with the band over the past 40 years. Bernice Haydock - piano & vocals John Braben - trumpet Tom Nicolson - trombone & vocals Paul Williams - clarinet & tenor sax Andrew Shaw - double bass Dave McCallum - drums http://sa2.seatadvisor.com/sabo/servlets/TicketRequest;jsessionid=B0FD0D5BF820B1602537D6C92DFBD4BE?eventId=100908323&presenter=AUBRISBANEJAZZ&venue=&event=&version=

The award celebrates those working at the cutting edge of artistic practices. Please join us as we celebrate our first BMCAA recipient Chris Bond, in the reconstruction of imagined sculptural works by his alter Louise Bryce.
Artists Matt McVeigh and Calvin Chee spent a week in Yandeyarra as part of our Creative Challenge program, presented by Go for 2 and 5. During the residency Matt and Calvin worked with the students to develop iconography that represents place and culture by literally digging out shapes in the Earth and casting concrete sculptural forms decorated with tints and found objects in the community. The outcome was a giant snake sculpture that is now on display within the community.
